Fall/Winter 24' Report and things to look forward too

Its been a great fall, mostly warm not to rainy and tons of fish caught. Big shout out to everyone who made it out! We had a great Alligator gar season with several in the 60 plus inch range caught and of course a few bigger lost. Really looking forward to doing more of this and had a great time getting guys on these fish and watching them get their ass kicked. Its cooled off they are still catchable but low and slow so were really just looking forward to the spring now. Look for this to be a bigger deal in the future!

the fall bass bite has been fantastic with some decent largemouth caught in the 4 to 6lb range. Mostly focused on east Texas lakes and the brazos river this fall with a few trips to Lake conroe. All producing some great fishing until the cool fronts got real. The topwater bite has slowed and were into waves of cold fronts but streamer fishing is great on the right days(multiple warm days in a row) otherwise low and slow and break out a sink line.

Carp fishing has been great but also transitioned into the winter pattern. We had some decent flats style fishing until mid to late November and it ended with some dry fly elm tree seed action that was still happening last i checked. Now id recommend checking creeks and rivers on sunny slash warmer days. Might even find some dry fly action.

Things to Look Forward to

Chain pickerel can be a blast this time of year just east of Dallas. They dont mind the cooler weather and are incredibly aggressive chasing down topwaters and streamers in the shallows. While almost everything else is sitting a little deeper and wants everything slow.

The White bass run can start as early as January and go well into April depending on what part of the state your in. Down south its warmer so it starts first, DFW is north and cooler so its last. But these fishing come in by the thousands to spawn and feed the whole their and back making for some stellar fly catching not fishing. Also makes it great for all levels of fly fishers new or experienced, so bring your friends and family.

Some of the biggest bass are caught in the winter if your ready to play the deep low and slow game im in but be ready to grind! Otherwise Largemouth will start getting shallow again around February or march depending on location and water temps.

Its cast and blast season! Were on the second split which in my experience is better especially January but its a great time of year to get up early maybe get some meat in the freezer and catch some fish as the evening heats up. Dont sleep in just cause its cold!
