Fishing has just been fantastic across Texas and we finally scored a Ten and a Half pound Largemouth Bass on Lake Conroe Big Congrats to Tom. He was already having a banner morning and this was just the icing on the cake. Life goals achieved!
Since i started off talking Lake conroe- Fishing has been great with the shad spawn making for great topwater action all along the shoreline. Its a little bit of whack mole but a lot of fun. Dont be scared to work thick vegetation just ask Tom even if its slow it can pay off big time. Tons of bluegill and other species of sunfish spawning also look for the honey combs and catch em until your board. Spotted gar have been spawning less and eating more as well helpin us through slow parts of the day. Keep and eye out for carp and bowfin with all the water its been spotty but possible. All the lakes are fishing fairly similar right now but as we warm start thinking summer patterns.
The Brazos river has been getting little pushes of rain making some sections temporally dirty but fishing great as they clear. Watch flows and choose your section wisely. Topwater action has been great especially early in the morning and throughout the cloudy rainy days, which are typically more cloudy than rainy out west. Otherwise streamer fishing with an intermediate line or 3 sec sink is the play checkout Dirty Water Fly Co. for fly advice or book a trip and use my fly boxes. The carp and buffalo have been playing more in the shallows and very willing to eat a fly in their face. Starting to see some freshwater drum shallow as well adding to our sightfishing options especially on sunny days.
Upper Trinity and its Forks have been getting a nice amount of water making for decent fishing in certain sections depending on the fork. Look for steady flows and decent water clarity dont count out fishing below the dams if wading but breaking out those kayaks and rafts will get ya away and fishing less pressured spots. Largemouth and spotted bass have been ok with popper droppers comin in clutch. White bass and hybrids have been here and there especially early. Carp and buffalo have been working the shallow edges and gravel sand humps but also look for some surface action where cottonwood seeds are piling up. Longnose gar have been laid up and very willing to eat as well.
THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO THIS SUMMER: Surface eating carp and buffalo as the cotton wood seeds falls. Of course tailers on the flats. Which is in full blast. Early morning and late evening bites for bass. Spotted bass in creeks and rivers however love the heat. Bowfin cruising the shallows and all to willingly to eat a crawfish fly. Alligator gar and Longnose gar trips targeting giants all through the summer months. Night fishing trips floating the river and listening to topwater eats. Multi day float trips tent camping. Limited Smallmouth bass paddle and float trips to Arkansas. LETS GO! If interested in any of these things email me for more details.
